Kamenoi Hotel Kii-tanabe

There are nice walking trails by the sea nearby, though the hotel is a long way from downtown, so be sure to check the shuttle schedule. The rooms are roomy and thoughtfully arranged, and the staff were very friendly. I also loved the large onsen bath, especially the outdoor area and its magnificent view. Breakfast had plenty to choose from, including Western food and fresh fruit.

The food was delicious and generous, and the beds and rooms were comfortable. The onsen was the highlight, with two indoor baths and an outdoor one beside a Zen garden, all with an incredible view. Just remember that, as in most onsen hotels, the rooms have toilets but no showers.

It’s an older place, but the traditional Japanese atmosphere is a big part of its charm, and everyone was really friendly. The views were perfect and there was plenty of free food. If you want a private shower, ask about upgrading to a room with one for a few extra dollars a night. Don’t expect modern facilities.

The rooftop bath was spacious and clean, and a lovely spot to relax. Our room was fairly large, with a nice view straight out to the sea. The staff were so friendly and went out of their way to collect us from the train station. The food was standard, though, and we didn’t find it especially exciting.
