SANU 2nd Home Tateyama 1st

There’s a convenience store about five minutes away on foot, and you can see the ocean from the sauna. This was my first stay at Tateyama 1st, and I’d suggest checking in early to catch the beautiful sunset. One funny thing, there’s a pedestrian path right outside, so you may make eye contact with people walking by as you go from the sauna to the balcony.

Sanu is an apartment-style place right by the ocean, where you can hear the waves. It gave me a nice change of pace and felt out of the ordinary. There were a few things I found inconvenient, though. The bath is indoors, with the tub by a window in the room and the shower room near the entrance. After showering, you have to dry off before getting into the tub, and having the tub inside the room also means humidity can build up. I was bothered by that and couldn’t relax in the bath. The sauna is on the balcony, so you have to go outside to use it and wear a swimsuit or sauna clothes. The beach is right in front, with people walking around, which might make women hesitate. At night it’s especially dark, and I think you could be quite visible, though I doubt anyone would be walking on the beach then. The road from the main road to the building is extremely narrow, so be careful if you’re driving a large car. If those concerns don’t bother you, it seems like a lovely place to relax with the sound of the waves.

My husband and I were looking for a sauna we could use as a couple, and found this place a few months ago. It also offers overnight stays, a sauna, and cold baths. Since there was no staff around, I was a little unsure at times, but the instructions explained how to use everything and we managed fine. I was glad there was an ice maker in the shared room to cool the cold bath. All the cooking utensils were provided, so we made dinner and relaxed with a movie on the projector. Watching the sunset and sunrise from the sauna was amazing. The one thing I missed was a recliner or two. It was such a good place that I’d definitely return.

The gentle sound of the ripples was lovely, since the waves around inner Boso weren’t too rough. The ocean view opens up right in front of you, and the sunset is beautiful from the terrace or even from the sauna. There’s a Seven-Eleven and Aeon nearby for shopping. For dinner out, I’d personally recommend "Conveyor Belt Sushi Yamato" by the sea. This was my first visit to SANU in Minami Boso.
