The canoe trip we booked through Atreyu was a lovely ride from Lake Kussharo down the Kushiro River. Our guide was friendly and clearly knew the river well. We could just relax and paddle-free cruise back to Atreyu, with our oars staying completely dry. Back at the cabin, the rooms were spacious and the beds wonderfully comfortable. Tomo-maru, the handsome furry host, made a rather reluctant appearance each evening, which only made him cuter. The log cabin was built by the host’s father, and the young chef and his sweet mother served dishes made with care and plated like fine dining. Every dish was delicious, especially the smoked cheese, which we bought vacuum-packed to take home. We stayed three nights and came away feeling wonderfully rested. Thanks for everything.
