On my return through town, I got a room on a different floor. The corridors were much nicer there, and the bath unit was newer, so the stay was even better. I was already quite happy with the place: good value, a roomy room with a proper desk and chair, working air conditioning, and tidy towels and sheets. Reception was professional, polite, and helpful, and the microwave and hot water dispenser were handy. The bathroom unit was in fine shape too. Some corridors and in-room devices still looked worn and dated, though, and a more thorough clean would have earned five stars.

We got a lot more for our money here than at other Japanese budget hotels we tried at a similar price. The staff had a good vibe, and there was hot water and tea on every floor. Breakfast was free, with curry, sausage, meatballs, rice, miso soup, pickled vegetables, and coffee. Laundry was free too, with detergent available for ¥100. It’s near the station for trains to Tokushima Station. We had a great stay and would recommend it if you’re in Tokushima.

There’s a filling, free breakfast from 6:30 to 9, and you can use the washer and dryer at no charge. Detergent is sold at reception for 100 yen. Kuramoto Station is right across from the hotel, but trains don’t come often, so checking the timetable can be a hassle. The nearest convenience store is five blocks away, and before 4 pm the front door is locked, so you can’t leave your luggage there. The hotel feels old but has been kept up. My room was spacious, and although I booked a single, it had two beds. The standard bathroom had an odor, probably because the property is old.
