The ryokan sits just off Asakusa’s busy streets, so it’s quiet at night while still being close to the action. Kaminarimon Gate, Senso-ji Temple, and Nakamise-dori street are all only a few minutes away on foot. I found that especially handy for an early, quiet visit to the temple, or when I was tired and wanted to get back to the inn quickly. A really convenient spot for enjoying Asakusa’s lively side and then getting some rest.

ART is a real gem. It’s clean, comfortable, and has a relaxed, down-to-earth feel. The location is great for exploring Asakusa, on a quiet corner less than a five-minute walk from the main market that leads to Senoji Temple. The owner, Hattori Hideaki, is generous and kind. He might come across a little gruff at first, but you soon see what a good heart he has.

The owner welcomed us warmly, showed us to our room, and explained the amenities and house rules. Everything was tidy and very clean, and the old-school feel made it seem like staying with family. I was there for my first three days in Japan a couple of weeks ago, and I’d happily stay again next time I’m in Tokyo. The location was just right, a little off the main road and away from the crowds, but still convenient for Asakusa. There’s air conditioning, which helped with the humidity. Sound carried a bit and we could hear doors closing, though with the AC and ceiling fan on, it was barely noticeable.

We had three rooms at this ryokan, and it was easily our favorite place of the whole Japan trip. The rooms are small, as you’d expect in Tokyo, but the value is fantastic. Everything was spotless, the beds were comfortable, and we slept really well. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the place felt cozy and welcoming. It doesn’t claim to be a five-star hotel, and I can’t think of anything I’d complain about. It’s close to several metro stations, with easy trips to Shibuya and Shinjuku. Sensoji Temple and the local markets are a short walk away. If I come back to Tokyo, checking availability here will be my first move. Highly recommended.

I’ve been staying here every year since around 2006, except during the pandemic years. It’s a lovely, relatively inexpensive place and makes getting around easy. The rooms are tidy and traditional Japanese style, with a wet-room shower and a Japanese bath that’s short but deep. Staff are friendly and helpful. There are three stations just a few minutes away: Asakusa Tsukuba Express line, which goes to Tsukuba and Akihabara; Asakusa Tobu Station, for Haneda Airport and the Sky Tree; and the Ginza Subway Line, for Shinjuku. Asakusa itself has interesting shops, 24-hour supermarkets, lots of restaurants, and the Sensou-ji temple complex with its famous bell. It’s a bit of a hidden gem.
