The rooftop bath was a lovely part of our stay, with an architecture that feels like a deep light well and a peaceful view of the sky. We also really enjoyed the food, especially the 'Lost Flavors' Kaiseki dinner and the holistic Ryokan breakfast. We were travelling with twin infants, and the hotel made that so much easier by providing cribs, high chairs, and even a bottle washer. The location worked very well for us too, since the Imperial Gardens are just steps away for daily walks. This is my first choice for a place to stay in Tokyo, and I wouldn’t choose anywhere else.
The biggest issue for us was the bathroom faucet. After about a minute, the warm water turned cold, and the only way to keep it warm was to use a pencil-thin stream with almost no pressure. I complained to the front desk a couple of times, but they couldn’t fix it. Washing my face took a good ten minutes and really hurt my back. Since other reviews don’t mention this, I suspect it may have been a problem with our room, but poor water pressure is one of my pet peeves. At a five-star hotel, I shouldn’t have to deal with that. Very disappointing. My husband and I travel a lot and usually stay in five-star hotels. This was our second visit to Tokyo, and we stayed in Ginza last time. Hoshinoya’s location is a little tricky, since none of the taxi drivers we encountered knew where it was. The building itself is elegant and impressive, and the 17-floor onsen has a view of the night sky with the moon overhead. The staff were very friendly and professional, and they deserve five stars.
The rooftop Kenjitsu training was a highlight for us. The instructors were fun, and the views were stunning, so I’d recommend fitting it into your plans if you can. The hotel is also close to Tokyo Station and other subway lines, which made getting around Tokyo easy. From the tea ceremony with Paul when we arrived to our departure, the staff made us feel welcome and appreciated. The door staff took our shoes and greeted us warmly each time we came in, which helped the place feel like home. Our room was comfortable and thoughtfully designed, with different lighting for different moods, all the amenities we needed, and a nice sitting area for tea. The beds were comfortable too. We loved the onsen and the common lounge, where our family could spend time together. This stay was a trip highlight, and we’d happily come back.
The top-floor onsen was unforgettable. After a day exploring the city, soaking in the hot spring baths while looking out over the Tokyo skyline felt tranquil and restorative. Our room was spacious, calming, and spotless, with lovely materials, thoughtful lighting, a good layout, and subtle Japanese touches. The whole hotel blends traditional Japanese elegance with modern luxury, and its peaceful, beautifully kept shared spaces made it feel like we’d stepped away from the busy city while still being in its centre. The staff made the stay feel personal, with genuine warmth and attentive care throughout. They often anticipated what we needed before we asked, and we felt at ease and valued. Every detail felt considered, luxurious without being overdone. It was one of the finest hotels we’ve stayed in, and we already can’t wait to return.
Right in central Tokyo, this is a peaceful, beautiful hotel with a modern upscale setting and a relaxing ryokan feel. The rooms are great, the service is excellent, and it was very child friendly for our 6-month-old and 3.5-year-old. Otemachi station connects directly to the hotel, which is a great location.
