Allamanda Aoyama Hotel

I arrived around 12:30 pm yesterday for a five-night stay. The place is old and not very comfortable, with windows that don’t provide ventilation or a view. It felt depressing to stay there. The main issue was being made to wait another two or three hours before checking in, even though the hotel seemed nearly empty and rooms were available and ready. The policy meant I could have checked in early, but they still wouldn’t let me. An angry-looking guy at the front desk made the whole thing worse.

The staff were gracious, the rooms are spacious, and the shower room was outstanding. What left a bad taste, though, was learning that the pool is adults only and that tattoos mean you can’t use it, the gym, or the spa. We’d paid a premium largely for those facilities, especially since we were traveling with our 4yo. The hotel messaged us about the restrictions on Booking.com after we booked, and I unfortunately missed it. I would have canceled if I’d seen it. Aside from that, I’d recommend the hotel if your group is tattoo free.

Out of all the places I stayed on this trip, Hotel Allamanda Aoyama was easily my favorite. The location made it easy to get out and enjoy Tokyo, but it was tucked away enough to come back and relax. The rooms felt cloud-soft and had all the useful touches I wanted, plus a few pleasant surprises. From the moment I arrived, the service was so smooth and attentive that I wondered if they could read my mind. My new happy place in Tokyo, no contest.

We really enjoyed the Japanese breakfast and had it every day for more than a week. It’s served more like a restaurant meal with a few choices, rather than as a buffet, which may explain some of the comments I’d seen. The staff were really friendly too. Very good hotel!
