The steep hill is worth knowing about. I found it manageable, and it felt kind of liberating to make it to the top, but pushing your cases uphill is easier than pulling them. If you have mobility problems, this probably isn’t the right place: there are no lifts, and you’ll have stairs to climb after the hill to reach the hotel and your room. The rooms themselves were clean and tidy, and larger than most budget hotels in Tokyo, with space for baggage. The staff, including Yuni, Shin, and the woman who cleaned, were friendly, approachable, and attentive. They noticed when we were gone, which felt reassuring for safety. Sorry we forgot to tell you we’d be away for a night! I asked if a toaster might be available because I love shokupan toast, and they set one up that same day. Messages got a quick response, they offered recommendations, and we could always find someone when we needed help. Security cameras at the entrances and in the public corridors were reassuring too. There’s a roof, a common area, a washing machine and dryer, and a microwave. The room also had a fridge, kettle, heater and AC, and hairdryer. A supermarket is an easy walk away, and most places we wanted to visit were 15-25 minutes by train. Local line access was good and saved us money since we didn’t need to use JR lines. You can top up your own tissues and toilet paper, and there are spare items like a sponge, toothbrush, baggage scales, sewing kit, tape, shampoo, and body wash. Slippers are provided for both the room and bathroom. The bathroom has a small step up. Staff kindly carry luggage upstairs and back down at the start and end of your stay. The bathroom is typical retro Japanese accommodation, with a short, deep tub, shower, and retro-style toilet. That worked for me since we were out most of the time and didn’t need anything fancy. Room cleaning is available on request rather than daily. The coin-operated washer and dryer can be used by locals during set hours, which I can’t remember, but they’re closed to the public from evening until early morning. Guests have access 24 hours, and the hotel can exchange notes for coins. It has a cozy, homely feel, somewhere between a homestay and a B&B, which I liked. We stayed for two weeks in February-March 2026. Thanks for a lovely stay!

The location is a big part of what made Hotel Yuni Star work for us. It’s a four-minute walk from Ichigaya Station, so it’s easy to explore Tokyo from here. We loved the rooftop lookout and came away with some beautiful photos and memories. Downstairs, the lobby has board games, card games, books, and relaxing music. There’s also a whiteboard with suggestions for local restaurants, shops, and parks, including places travelers often miss. The rooms were cozy, the staff were incredibly kind, and the location was great. This is by far the best hotel I’ve ever stayed in. I’ve attached two photos of me and my boyfriend on the rooftop so you can see the view.

We were so impressed by how Yuni and Shin looked after us. My friend became very sick, and they came with us to the hospital in the middle of the night, translated, and stayed until everything was sorted, asking for nothing in return. They also brought him food and drinks. They’re genuinely kind and easy to approach. I’ll always be grateful to them. We stayed six nights at Hotel Yuni, and the rooms were clean and comfortable. There’s a lovely outdoor deck with a great view. The location made it easy to get around, with stations and plenty of food options nearby. It was the best place we’ve ever stayed. Thank you again, Yuni and Shin. We’ll definitely recommend it and come back.

The room was larger than the typical hotel room we’ve had in Japan, and for what we paid it was excellent value. It was also very clean. The hotel has a charming cat-themed design throughout, which cat lovers will especially enjoy. At check-in, Yuni, the owner, welcomed us with delicious lemon tea and useful tips about nearby shops and restaurants. The hotel is centrally located in Tokyo, so getting around was easy. On checkout day, we could leave our luggage there, and Yuni made us lemon tea again because she remembered how much we liked it. She also gave us a small souvenir as a parting gift. Yuni is wonderful. We’ll definitely stay here again next time we’re in Tokyo.

The staff were the best part of our stay. Yuni gave us lots of helpful recommendations, and everyone was so sweet. We were also pleasantly surprised by the special Christmas breakfast and the New Year gift. The rooms had everything we needed and more, and the hotel’s central location in Ichigaya was a real plus. Several subway stations and lines are very close, which made exploring Tokyo easy. Our trip was perfect largely thanks to Yuni and the hotel staff. Thanks again to Yuni and the whole team!
