Keio Presso Inn Nihonbashi Kayabacho

We argued with the staff about a late fee. I’d told them we might be late and asked if that was okay, but because of the language barrier, I didn’t understand that they would charge us. The fee wasn’t stated in the rules. Most hotels have an 11am checkout, and another hotel with a 10am checkout still let us stay until 10.30. I was only about 15 minutes late, and nobody warned me there would be a charge. I’d already notified them I might run late. I’m sure I can find a better hotel next time.

The room was a little small, though I assume most hotels around here are similar. Everything looked new, the price was reasonable, and the facilities were good. There’s a convenience store on the first floor, and the subway station is super close. I’m pretty satisfied.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and there are plenty of places to eat nearby. Getting around is easy too: from exit 7, the Ginza line reaches Ginza in four stops. I stayed two nights and found the hotel comfortable and well located. The room was small, like other Japanese business hotel chains, but had the usual shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, and hair dryer. You can pick up other amenities by the reception lifts, and there’s a useful mini fridge. I would have preferred coffee as well as green tea, but the adjacent FamilyMart was only a 10-second walk away. I’d definitely stay again.

The location is probably the only good thing about this hotel, since it’s close to two metro lines. This has been my worst hotel experience in Japan so far. There was an unpleasant smell as soon as I entered the room. Staff moved me to another one, but it smelled the same. They said it was from construction, which seemed odd. I called the front desk for an extra pillow and was asked to choose between soft and hard. Then room service said they had no pillows available. Those answers contradict each other, and it’s hard to believe. Think twice before booking.
