Landabout Tokyo

The reception staff were great, and the hotel was clean with comfortable beds in a standard Tokyo-sized room. Just be aware that some rooms look onto the cemetery next door. It didn't disturb us, but I'm afraid of ghosts and had to cancel the rest of my stay. Reception offered to move me to a room facing the road or on a higher floor, which I appreciated. A Yamanote Line station is about a five-minute walk away. From there, popular shopping areas such as Shibuya, Shinjuku, Ginza, and Harajuku are roughly 11-13 stops away. This neighborhood has more locals than tourists, and there isn't much to do within walking distance. The reception desk is staffed only until midnight, then support starts again at 7 a.m. Foreign travelers should keep that in mind, since arriving after midnight means there's no way to get into the hotel. If you're not fussy, it's a great place.

We had a really enjoyable stay at Landabout. I liked the room lighting and interior, and the hotel still feels fairly new. The rooms are small, but ours was clean, the bed was comfortable, and the bathroom was cute. Staff at reception, housekeeping, and the restaurant were friendly and accommodating. Breakfast had limited choices, but what we tried was tasty. There's a nice terrace up top with a view over Ueno. The hotel is close to the train station, though I didn't find many restaurant options nearby.

I had a good stay and would come back. The receptionists were very accommodating, and there are plenty of restaurants and konbini nearby. Both Uguisudani (Yamanote Line) Jr station and Iriya (Hibiya Line) subway station are only a 4-5 minute walk away. They also offer luggage delivery, which made moving between places much easier. I was pleasantly surprised by the housekeeping during my four-night, five-day stay. Even when I didn't request room cleaning, they left extra towels and amenities hanging on the door each day.

Coffee here is so good, and the price for a Tokyo stay is insanely good. This is a quaint spot in an underrated part of town, one stop from Ueno, with easy walks to good izakaya places. There are lots of 24-hour places to eat, so I skipped breakfast. I also used their luggage forwarding, which was incredibly smooth, and you can rent a couple of items from the great amenities selection. The room worked comfortably for me as a solo traveler. For a couple or two people traveling together, I'd get a bigger one. I'd definitely return.
