Hotel Musse Ginza Meitetsu

The breakfast was one of the tastiest hotel breakfasts I've had. I liked the small dishes arranged in sections on the tray, though the menu stayed pretty much the same through my nine days there, across different weeks. One day, a whole filming crew showed up halfway through breakfast. I don't know if there was a notice I missed, but I'd have avoided that time if I'd known. It was uncomfortable. If you prepaid and skip breakfast, you can exchange your coupon for a free gift. For a solo traveler, the room had enough space. The sink was across from the bed, separate from the toilet and shower-bath, which seemed odd at first but turned out to be convenient. Staff were friendly and helpful. There are two coin laundry machines, and the TV shows live updates on laundry availability and how busy the breakfast room is. Restaurants and convenience stores are nearby, and the main Ginza shopping streets are about a five to ten-minute walk. The closest stations are roughly ten minutes away.

We stayed from Feb 26 to Mar 1 and carried a jellycat soft toy that we kept on the bed. On our last night it had gone missing, so we went straight to the front desk. Luckily, Mr Nozomu Tokoyoda was there. He was incredibly helpful, searched through all the changed bed linens, and eventually found it. He tried everything he could to locate the toy, which means a lot to me, and I'm very thankful. The hotel is also in a nice location, and I'll definitely come back.

Hotel Musse worked well for me because of its location, breakfast, Wi-Fi, and room climate control. I enjoyed the three-night stay and would come back if the price was right. Just know the basic room is extremely small, even for Tokyo, with no view beyond a brick wall. The bathroom setup wasn't my favorite either, since the bath and shower are in one wet room, like on a cruise ship or at a campsite.

The rooms looked clean, though the carpet had stains and the box springs didn't look clean, so they should be covered. I liked the breakfast, especially the coffee and orange juice, and the mix of Japanese and other options. Hotel Musse is in a lively area full of good restaurants, but a few streets away it's quiet. What bothered me was all the extra charges when rooms cost over $300 a night: 300 yen for the washer, 200 for the dryer, 200 for bath salts, 400 for special shampoo, and 1500 for a lost key, among other fees. It felt silly that they were trying so hard to get another five dollars or so from guests. They might say it keeps costs down, but a hotel at this price shouldn't need to nickel and dime people.
