Nice Hostel Yahiro

For the price and facilities, it was okay. The shower had good hot and cold water pressure, and soap and shampoo were supplied. But the shower area is tiny at 75x75 cm, and the toilet space is 100x75 cm. They may not suit non-Asian guests. I stayed four nights and the towels and linen weren’t changed at all, which was a shame. The kitchen has a continuously hot water kettle, microwave, sink, and a few plates, bowls, forks, spoons, and small glasses. There’s a coin washer for ¥100 per wash and a dryer for ¥100 per 30 minutes, but the dryer only left my clothes damp. The stairs are narrow and steep, so getting a large suitcase up and down was a struggle.

I booked through Booking a month ahead and got a very reasonable price. The place is close to Yahiro station, with good rail connections to the rest of Tokyo. The room was simple, with its own bathroom and toilet, and had a mini fridge. There’s a shared kitchen downstairs.

What a nightmare. They didn’t send any check-in details before arrival, and the owner never responded when we tried to contact them. Stay away from this property.

The price is very cheap, and the location worked well for me. It’s right by the train station and almost comically close to a convenience store. The bus station is a short walk away, and the scenery is pleasant. The room was decent and clean enough for me, with a private bathroom, though it was quite small. The stairs are really narrow. My reason for giving only two stars was a very strange man on the first floor. I’m not sure if he was the owner or a tenant, but he shouted obscenities at visitors and was very rude. My friends and I deliberately came back late and left early to avoid dealing with him.
