RIHGA Royal Hotel Tokyo

We booked one night in early March 2026 and stayed for three more. For what we paid, the Righa Royal room was over 400 square feet, compared with the typical under-200-square-foot rooms at other hotels in Tokyo. The layout was especially handy at night: doors separated the sleeping area from the entry hall and bathroom, and another door closed off the toilet, so one of us was less likely to wake the other. The hotel has an old, elegant feel compared with the basic furnishings common in Shinjuku, but still had modern touches like plenty of outlets and a tea kettle. The shuttle to Takadanobaba metro station was much appreciated. It ran twice an hour during our stay, with the last pickup from the station at 9:40 pm. Staff were very helpful, and most spoke English. Special thanks to Santosh, who spoke great English and, if I recall correctly, Japanese, Hindi, and Nepalese. He helped us a number of times and made the stay a delight. We didn’t try the restaurants, so can’t comment on them. For the record, I didn’t receive any compensation or incentive for this review.

The hotel is beautiful, and the welcome was nice, with great staff at first. But after an issue with room service and two requests to the front desk, the service seemed to drop off. I’m used to excellent service at other hotels, including in Japan, and this one is lacking, especially given the room and the money spent. I hope things improve over the next couple of days.

We’ve just checked in, and the room smells really stale. I’m disgusted and so disappointed. Jim’s comments about it still being a great deal for the price left me even more let down. This is pathetic. With three children aged three and up, I don’t have another option now. It’s not about the money. If I’d come without my family, I would’ve walked out.

Mr.nishikawa was rude, unhelpful to tourists, and awful to deal with. He seemed to look for ways to add extra charges to everything we asked for. Maybe rihga royal hotel tokyo makes him do that.
