Smile Hotel Tokyo Asagaya

A good place to stay if you're touring. It's right next to Asagaya station.

I stayed here the year before, so I came back for two weeks this year. The station is really close, which is handy. You can hear the train once in a while, but it wasn't enough to bother me. I was traveling solo, and the semi double room was perfect for me. Staff were friendly and helpful, and spoke enough English to help with what I needed. There are coin-operated drink machines on most floors, some with alcohol, and two coin-operated washers and dryers. No need to add detergent, the machine does it automatically. There are lots of great little restaurants nearby, and Shinjuku is about a 15-minute train ride away. I liked Asagaya because it’s quieter at night and not packed with people like downtown Tokyo. I saved a lot of money staying here. I’ll definitely come back next year!

The location was awesome, surrounded by restaurants and convenience stores, with a grocery store and bakery nearby. The Asagaya Strip has loads of things to check out. Shinjuku is about 15 minutes by train, and Disneyland takes about 45 minutes to an hour. It’s right next to a train station, but it only gets loud if you leave the windows open. The room was much smaller than I expected from the pictures, probably one of the smaller ones, though I didn’t see the others. I’m not tall, and neither is my wife, so it was our size. It was clean and kept up with daily service. The front desk helped whenever we had questions. I’d stay here again. This was my first trip to Japan, and thanks to the staff for everything. The staff turned a scary typhoon stay into an enjoyable experience. They were exceptionally patient with my poor communication through Google Translate, answered questions about booking rooms, and let us drop off our luggage early before check-in. They also coordinated delivery of my four luggages using Takkyubin, measuring the bags and filling out the required forms. I stayed for one night because of a severe typhoon, and this seemed to be the only standard hotel in the Asagaya area. We expected a bare-bones stay, but the staff went above and beyond.
