Super Hotel Shinagawa Shimbamba

We stumbled across this place online and decided to try it. It turned out to be a hidden gem. The rooms are small, but comfortable, and the large bed helps. The station is very close, and taxis are easy to find. There’s a Japanese bath on the first floor that guests can use for free, plus laundry machines and dryers for 100 yen each, with detergent supplied at no cost. You can also make your own cocktails during the free daily happy hour from 5-9pm. Breakfast is free too. It isn’t especially Western, but there’s enough variety to fill you up for a few hours. Staff are incredibly helpful. The TV has Netflix, Disney, Prime, and other services if you’d rather not watch Japanese television. We’d definitely stay again.

There are small supermarkets, restaurants, and coffee shops close by. Caffé Veloce is worth a try. Shimbamba meto station is a short walk away, and the Tokyo monorail at Tennozu Isle station takes a little longer to reach. The staff were super friendly. I got by with their English and the Japanese in my guidebook. Breakfast was delicious and got me going for the day. They also provide fresh towels daily, pajamas to use, and a choice of pillow types. The no-tattoo rule at the onsen is strict, though, which is a shame.

I came across this place by chance, and it was well worth considering for a budget stay. Breakfast is included, you can choose your own pillow, and there’s a public bath with everything needed to relax. It’s on the small side, but very quiet. The room was tiny, though that’s normal by Tokyo standards.

Whenever I fly into Haneda, I like staying here. Walking to the Tokyo Monorail station is manageable, and for this price it’s about as convenient as you could hope for. It’s a no-frills place, but comfortable enough to get a good rest during a trip. Just keep in mind that reception doesn’t open until 7am if you arrive in the morning.
