The low price comes with a lack of care, clear communication, and basic upkeep. The instructions I got after paying were unclear, seemed copied and pasted, and didn't match the room I was assigned. Guests are expected to call, but the staff didn't speak English. I ended up translating for another guest who was lost because of the system. There were a few thoughtful provisions: earplugs, a toothbrush and toothpaste set, and slippers. But the slippers were too small for average adult feet, and you only get one toothbrush set for the whole stay. I was given one small body towel for my entire stay. When I asked for a clean one, I was told I'd have to pay extra or wash it myself, though this wasn't stated in the policy. The pillow and quilt aren't replaced until checkout. There are sharp, pin-like hooks holding up the curtains, so be careful. The shower head was hanging off its hook, and a nail fell out while I was showering. I had to fix it myself. There's not enough shelf or hook space in the shower and toilet rooms, so belongings often end up on the floor. Cleanliness was also questionable: old body wash bottles stayed in the shower for days, and there were rat droppings on the windowsill. Tokyo House Inn needs major improvements to communication, cleanliness, and guest safety.

The owner was kind, friendly, and responsive. For the price and location, I think this is a decent option for a short visit, and my two-night stay was fine. It's an old building, so it wasn't spotless, but this is an extremely budget stay. The bed seemed clean enough, I didn't see any vermin, the toilet worked, and the shower was nice. Towels, a toothbrush, toothpaste, earbuds, and bedding were provided. I chose it over a capsule hotel because the women-only dorm had five other women and enough room for a table, fridge, luggage, and getting changed. The room itself felt secure, though shared access to the toilet and shower with men came as a surprise and should be made clear. The location is perfect if you want to enjoy late nights out. My main problem was the air conditioning. It didn't do much, and the room was hot and stuffy, making it hard to sleep.

The location was good, and the room was okay for the price. The showers were gross, though, and there was no security, anyone could walk in. Power tools were going right beside my head from 6am.

The area is great, but stay well away from this hostel. It's a total dump, filthy and in terrible shape, and the pictures are dishonest. After 10am, as instructed, I came early to leave my bags, but nobody was at the front desk. The doors were all wide open and there was no cleaning staff. I went to check whether there was luggage storage near the room, but it was messy and had cigarettes in it. There are also a number of deleted reviews about bed bugs. I'd strongly advise against renting a room here. Pay a little extra for the APA hotel across the street. It looks like a cheap room for one-night stands.
