I was worried at first because Zenriren Yoyogi-No-Yado cost a lot less than the other options, and I'd seen a few one-star reviews. Those concerns turned out to be unfounded. The friendly, genuinely helpful staff made the place feel homely, almost like staying at someone's home. They even handed out Christmas treats, which was a nice surprise. And the location is hard to beat: convenience stores and places to eat are right downstairs, with the train station just below and across the building, so getting around Tokyo is easy. For the location, comfort, and welcoming service, I thought it was excellent value. I'd happily stay again and recommend it to others.

The rooms are surprisingly spacious for Tokyo, especially compared with hotels in the same price range. It's tucked inside an office building, and the price is a strong option for anyone on a budget. The Yoyogi station entrance is right across the street. Just keep the midnight to 6 a.m. curfew in mind, it may not suit you if you're planning late nights out drinking.

The worst hotel experience I've had. We were left stranded outside after midnight because the elderly man at the front desk was rude and unhelpful at check-in, and never mentioned the curfew. The desk was supposedly open 24/7, but nobody answered when we tried to get help. When we brought it up the next morning, the same man acted as if he didn't know what we were talking about, even though we tried to explain in Japanese. We've lived in Japan for five years and can speak Japanese well enough to be understood, even if we're not native speakers. It felt like paying customers were treated with disrespect and indifference. Unforgivable and unacceptable. I hope people with prejudice or discriminatory attitudes don't become receptionists.
