Katsuya Ryokan

The beach in front of the hotel was safe-feeling, with clean water, a comfortable depth, and separate sections. We were there on a family trip for two nights in summer, with breakfast and dinner included. The building and rooms are older, but they seemed clean to me. The meals were excellent and thoughtfully put together, so I looked forward to breakfast and dinner even over multiple stays. The only letdown was the lack of a fridge in the room. They did give us ice, so it wasn’t a huge problem. 😅 They decided against installing a diving board this year, so I’m planning to come back next year. 🙇

The beach is right outside, so it was easy to swim, and the food was delicious. The building is old, but that didn’t bother me. We could bring our own drinks, though there’s not much nearby, so it’s better to buy them around Tonosho. I caught a sillago from the beach. If they’re not busy, they’ll cook it for you.

I stayed in November 2021 and rented a large room facing the beach. Palm trees framed the beautiful view, with the beach right in front. The room only had a shower, while the bath was on the third floor. We ate in the large hall, and the food was delicious. When I asked whether they could make rice balls from the white rice for lunch, they kindly prepared wraps for me. 😐

We picked this inn for a trip to see the autumn leaves at Kankakei. It’s only a short drive from Obe Port. Though the inn is old, it was well maintained and comfortable. The food was satisfying, especially the rice, and we left very full. The two drawbacks mattered for our group: you can take in a panoramic ocean view from the bath, but morning bathing wasn’t available, and the room had a Japanese-style toilet. With elderly parents, a pregnant woman, and a young child traveling together, that was a bit difficult. I’d like to return in summer and swim in the ocean.
