I like the food here, especially the simmered dishes, though they can be a little spicy. They’re good with fish, so those dishes are reliably tasty too. The landlady is wonderfully kind. The place feels old, but it’s clean, and I enjoy that old-fashioned atmosphere. I often come here when I go fishing, even on the plan without sushi. It’s a great inn.

Dinner at the sushi restaurant was a highlight: the seafood is famous in Tottori, and I found the sushi delicious and good value. Breakfast was tasty too, including the pickled radish you’d expect in Tottori. The owner, landlady, and head landlady were all friendly, and their relaxed hospitality made the stay easy. I left my luggage with them for two days, and I’m grateful for that. Wishing them good health. I stayed in October 2022 after booking through Rakuten Travel. The inn and sushi restaurant are in downtown Tottori, about a 10-minute walk from Tottori Station’s north exit. It’s a long-established place from before the war, in a wooden building that seems to date from shortly after the war. It has a retro feel and apparently serves lunch as well. My second-floor room was Japanese-style, with its own toilet and sink. There seemed to be very few sinks, which concerned me. The bathroom was an ordinary family bath, like one in a residential building, nothing special. The owner is apparently a well-known motorcyclist in the prefecture. My visit happened to be the day before an event at Hayabusa Station on the Wakasa Railway Line, and I enjoyed hearing him chat animatedly with other motorcyclists staying there. If the age of the building doesn’t bother you, I think it’s a great inn.
The owners made us feel completely at ease. The landlady’s thoughtfulness meant a lot to us, and her husband was so welcoming that he even made a small kappa sushi roll for our baby. We stayed as a family of three with a child just under one year old, and the Japanese-style room worked really well for children. Since we love sushi, the generous, luxurious toppings felt like good value too. The facilities are old and have the feel of a traditional guesthouse, though the plumbing outside the bathroom had been renovated. If you’re comfortable with the older facilities, I’d definitely recommend staying here.
A kind landlady and a homey feel made this a different sort of stay from a business hotel. I could hear some footsteps and voices in the hallway, but it was generally quiet. The old traditional building had a clean toilet and bathroom, and Wi-Fi was available. I stayed one night without meals.
The landlady was lovely and taught me a lot about Tottori, so I had a really worthwhile stay. The service and atmosphere were excellent, and I appreciated it. Dinner was filling, with generous rice portions, and the crab nigiri was especially good. Still, both pieces of white fish smelled fishy, and I was bothered to find some unwashed bits in the breakfast bowl. 😊
