It’s an old hotel that works for a quick night, but I wouldn’t want to stay for longer. There’s no desk for working, and the internet was unreliable and inconvenient. The bed was fine, though the bathroom was small. It backs onto the nightlife area, so there was noise in the early morning even from the 8th floor. Breakfast was average at best, and regular tea wasn’t on the menu. There are better options.

On a fine midsummer day, especially during a holiday, expect the trail to be crowded. The hike up Mount Tate (Tateyama) is easy to finish in a day, and getting to the trailhead is straightforward. Mount Tate is in the northern half of Japan’s Kita Alps (Northern Alps). It’s one of Japan’s three holy mountains (Three Holy Mountains, Sanreizan), alongside Mount Fuji (Mount Fuji, Fujisan) and Mount Haku (Mount Haku, Hakusan), and is also one of Japan’s 100 Famous Mountains. It’s among the most accessible peaks in the area.

It’s close enough to the station, but the place has an odd feel. The room size was okay, though the layout was strange even by Japan’s standards. I wouldn’t really recommend it.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and breakfast was delicious. The room was comfortable and well maintained. A great place to stay.
