Okadaya Toyohashi

The polite, helpful front desk and the restaurants nearby were a plus. It’s far from the station, but finding somewhere to eat wasn’t a problem. For a budget stay, I’d recommend it. I paid 3,500 yen for a room with a shared bathroom on a Saturday. Prices differ depending on whether the room has its own bathroom. My room was on the second floor, so the stairs weren’t an issue. You have to get amenities and a yukata from the front desk rather than finding them in the room. Mine was a smoking room, but I barely noticed a cigarette smell. I did see a handprint on the window, and I could hear the neighbors talking, so keep the TV volume down. The shared bathroom has a bath and shower that can fit two or three people. The bath is open until 11 p.m.; after that, only the shower is available. The toilet is Western-style, which is easier if you don’t like Japanese-style toilets.

This business hotel is in southern Toyohashi, and most of the guests seemed to work in construction. The rates are reasonable, making it convenient for sightseeing around Irago, Toyohashi, or Toyokawa.

I booked a room with two meals, but no private bathroom or toilet. The place has a very Showa-era feel, yet the food was delicious and the room was reasonably well maintained. For this price, I thought it was perfectly fine and worth what I paid. People giving low ratings seem to be expecting more than the price covers, probably judging it by a standard that costs around 3,000-4,000 yen more. Those ratings don’t mean much to me. Reviews should take the price paid into account.

There’s a bus stop right outside, which makes getting to Toyohashi Station very convenient. The front desk staff are polite, and the room quality is good.
