Tsutaya Ryokan

I booked directly through the site and sent a question using the Contact tab. They replied promptly with available dates and meal options. I’d recommend booking that way. I spent one night at Tsutaya in Kinosaki onsen in March 2026 as a solo traveler who didn’t speak Japanese. I was the only foreigner among many Japanese guests, but the staff made me feel incredibly welcome. English-speaking staff explained everything about Kinosaki, dinner and breakfast. Since it was snow crab season in March, I had the snow crab feast, which was amazing. My room was spacious and traditional, and I wouldn’t call it dated, unlike some other reviews. The staff make and unmake the bed while you’re at dinner and breakfast, so you don’t see them doing it. The ryokan is very central, roughly in the middle of all six onsens, which makes it convenient. It was an incredible stay, and I’d recommend it to solo travelers as well as groups. There was a group of eight Japanese tourists there, so larger groups seem to be fine too.

Their care around our dietary preferences meant a lot to us, and we were especially touched by the kindness and thoughtful gifts they gave us at the end. Saying goodbye was quite emotional. From the warm welcome when we arrived, our stay at Tsutaya Ryokan felt magical and went beyond what we’d hoped for. We can’t recommend it enough and will definitely return.

The location was convenient and good value, and the staff were helpful throughout. They provided a free shuttle from the train station. When we left, they also took our luggage to the station, which saved us a lot of work. Our booking included breakfast and dinner, and both were delicious. We got to try a range of seasonal local foods, including plenty of seafood and Tajima beef. There’s a small library too, a quiet place to read and watch people passing below. The room looked a little dated, though that gave it some character. We had a pleasant stay.

We spent two nights here while exploring Kinosaki onsen town. The host and staff were wonderful and kept making sure we were looked after. It really felt like home, and we’ll definitely stay at this ryokan again on our next visit.
