NEW GREENPIA tsunan

The snow has been amazing every time we’ve visited in February, three times now, with lots of soft powder. The runs are best for intermediate skiers and snowboarders, and there aren’t many of them. There’s a relaxed attitude to going off-piste, and the whole place has an easygoing feel that makes it a good spot to unwind. Great for skiing with kids. After skiing, you can have dinner at the buffet, soak in either of the two hot spring baths, or spend time in the game rooms or bowling alley. It’s all in the building, so there’s no need to walk or drive around. The Japanese-style rooms comfortably fit two adults and two kids on a budget. WiFi is fast and reliable, and there’s even an EV charging station. The facilities aren’t the newest, but it’s great value for money.

The scenery around the hotel is nice, but I didn’t like my room. It was Japanese-style, with no bath, so I had to use the public bath, which only opens at night until midnight. Most facilities close too early. Once night falls, there’s basically nothing to do at the hotel except sleep.

The natural setting is what I’ll remember from this beautiful spot. The luge and other attractions are great. The hotel and its amenities seem to date from around 1985, and look old and not very well maintained. The onsen is small but clean. The pool is okay, though its cleanliness gets 3 out of 5, and it’s overpriced.

We stayed for one night, in a cozy but rather old Japanese-style room with a toilet and bath. It was a good size for 4-5 people. There’s a large lobby with a place to rest, plus a convenience and omiyage shop, karaoke room, arcade, two onsen areas, and a sauna. The restaurant is spacious, but the dinner and breakfast buffets were just okay. The staff were very friendly and spoke English. We visited during the lantern festival, which was awesome. If you’re arriving by train, be sure to reserve the free shuttle. I didn’t take many photos because I was having a great time with my friends. I hope I can come back in a non-winter season to explore the area.
