We spent two nights here and found the place really clean and comfortable. There are three private onsens you can reserve, and locals can rent them too, which gives the guest house a nice community feel. I'd definitely recommend it for a visit to Usa.
The room was a little noisy because we could hear the road from the bedroom. Apart from that, this is a clean, newly built guest house, and the private onsen baths are really lovely.
The spacious private hot spring bath was such a relaxing part of our stay that we went back again in the morning. We all slept well too, thanks to the soft, comfortable mattress. We first stayed here two years ago for a trip to Harmony Land and liked it so much that we booked again. Traveling with children usually means little time to unwind, but the kind proprietresses kept them entertained while we ate, even though they were busy. We got to enjoy a delicious hot pot at our own pace. I'd happily stay here again if we come to Oita.
I was driving around looking for somewhere to stay after my booking at a nearby hotel fell through at the last minute. I spotted a sign for hot springs and lodging, and they were very accommodating when I asked if they had room during the busy Obon period. They were a huge help with such a sudden request. I'd use their service again if I get the chance to visit Oita.
📆2025-1-1 I was glad not to waste the long wait for my train to Beppu, nearly three hours, on New Year's Day. After visiting Usa Shrine for my first shrine visit of the year, I had taken a local train instead of the Sonic. Google Maps showed this as the only hot spring or public bath within walking distance, so I called first and then walked about 7-8 minutes to it. I was surprised by the “members only” wording, but you don't actually need to be a member. General customers can drop in, and there are three private baths. I chose “Suo,” the long, narrow tub with a waterfall-like feature at the back. The bathhouse was clean and could fit about three people. You can adjust the water temperature at the faucet. There's a sign inside calling it a “simple hot spring,” though some Google Maps reviewers question whether the water is groundwater instead. I couldn't find a hot spring analysis report in the building either. The facility was renovated about six years ago and taken over from someone who'd run a hot spring inn for more than 40 years, so maybe it's close to the edge of what currently counts as a hot spring. I went in believing it was one. As a public bath lover, those questions aren't that important to me. I care more about the bath's therapeutic effects. 🍀Simple Hot Spring Bathing fee: private bath, 50 minutes, 2,000 yen *1,000 yen for single occupancy
