Uwajima Oriental Hotel

The staff were so kind and made a real effort to speak English, which I appreciated. They also had pamphlets and other important information in English. The room was small but worked for one person, and the hotel is near the station and Warei Shrine. The toilet was very loud after flushing. There's a kettle, but no mug, so bring one or use a paper cup from the free drink bar. Checking out was easy, just drop the key in the lobby box.

The staff were very friendly, and I liked the local orange juice set out by reception. They also had a selection of bath salts, a nice touch since even though smaller hotels have baths, this was the only hotel where we saw anything to add for relaxing. We stayed one night during a short Shikoku road trip, stopping in Uwajima to see the Castle.

The room was clean and comfortable, and the air conditioning worked perfectly. What really stood out was the service at check-in. I speak only a little Japanese and was having trouble booking a ferry ticket to Usuki, Kyushu. The woman at the desk called the ferry company for me, made the reservation, and printed all the paperwork I needed. She went out of her way to help, and I'm very grateful. Check-in itself was great too. I'd recommend this hotel based on that customer service alone.

We were allowed to check in late, around 11:30 PM, which I really appreciated. I think check-in isn't possible after midnight. The staff were friendly and accommodating, and the price was good. There are lots of free extras, including coffee, tea, bath salts, pajamas, toothbrushes, and towels, so I felt well looked after as a guest. It's close to the station, castle, and other sights in Uwajima. I'd definitely recommend staying here.
