I couldn’t fit in a visit to the onsen because I was busy exploring Wakkanai, but I heard it has oily water. The hotel is a few minutes’ walk from Wakkanai station, with a Seicomart nearby for cheap food. I was really pleased with the souvenir the concierge gave me. My country has an Omiyage tradition too, called pasalubong in my native language. This was my second hotel in Japan on my first trip there last April. Few people in Wakkanai speak English, so have a translator ready, or better yet, learn Japanese. The room was comfortable and great. The bathroom was small, as expected, and I had to set the hot and cold taps to the same level to get a comfortable temperature. Breakfast was really nice. I still miss the hokke (mackerel) set meal with milk, prepared by the nice grandmas. Love Hokkaido grandmas! I recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Wakkanai.

It was okay.

The front desk staff were very friendly, and the hot spring was better than I expected. Wakkanai Station and Minami-Wakkanai Station are both about a 15-20 minute walk away. Getting around is fine if you don’t mind walking or traveling by car. There’s a Seico Mart nearby. The only toiletries provided are shampoo with conditioner and body soap, so women may want to bring their own amenities.

The triple room and the large public bath were both very clean. The toilet and bathroom were separate, and parking was available. The bath apparently stays open from evening until checkout. The room had a yukata (Japanese robe), slippers, towels for the bath and face, a hairdryer, shampoo with conditioner, body soap, soap, toothpaste, air conditioning, a TV, a kettle, a mini-refrigerator, Febreze, and green tea. The large bath area also had face wash, lotion, moisturizer, a comb, and a hairdryer. Cold water and a microwave were available, too.

I visited on Sunday, July 6th, 2025. Wakkanai Onsen is known for slightly alkaline, oily hot spring water. The breakfast rice was delicious. I picked either Yumepirika or Nanatsuboshi, but I think it was Nanatsuboshi. I was delighted to get coffee after the meal, and they gave me a refill. I’d like to come back if I get the chance.
