We felt at home almost as soon as we arrived, and within ten minutes we’d decided to add a second night to our original one-night booking. We were curious to explore Yaizu, and spent a whole day walking around, just taking in everyday life without tourist attractions or crowds. The neighborhood is very walkable, and even with suitcases the train station was an easy walk. Migiwaya is in a beautiful waterfront spot, and the property is immaculate. Our room was the biggest and most spectacular we’ve seen in Japan, with an in-room onsen overlooking fishing boats in the marina. The thoughtful touches from Ken and the staff kept appearing, often before we even asked. They arranged reservations for us readily and with warm smiles. Emailing ahead to book was quick and responsive. Thank you, Ken, for the personal ride to the station when we left and for sharing your family history as the seventh-generation owner of Migiwaya. We’re grateful for our stay and would recommend it to anyone wanting a relaxing, special place away from the usual routes in Japan. Your caring, attentive staff made the trip more memorable, and we hope to see you again soon. One more thing, the views of mt Fuji from the beach just a few minutes' walk from Migiwaya are spectacular.

I’d come back here. The meals were elaborate and delicious, served in a calm, comfortable setting, and the private onsen temperature could be turned down to 39C, which I preferred. Our room was spacious, the bed was comfortable, and it had modern amenities. The staff were lovely and spoke good English. They kindly picked us up from Yaizu station and dropped us back there at checkout. I especially recommend this place for solo travelers, since there are very few higher-end, full-service ryokans with a private onsen that take single guests. P.S. You might get to know a very affectionate local kitty.

We came from Tokyo to Yaizu and walked to Migiwaya from Yaizu Station, arriving two hours early. It was such a pleasant walk, going from all the bustle to a quieter waterside area. They took our luggage and had it in our room by the time we got back. We walked along the water to the Hamatome swimming beach area, which was lovely and well worth doing. Check-in was quick. We arranged a time for the shared private onsen, then were shown to our rooms. They were stunning, with a private onsen and a beautifully arranged garden, or an ocean view if you're on the top floor. Even with our own bath, we were glad we tried the shared private onsen too. We had 45 minutes there, the water kept flowing, and they provided delicious cold tea. Dinner and breakfast were both amazing. Some dishes pushed our Western comfort zone in a good way, and everything we tried was new to us and delicious. It was all ready when we arrived, but we never felt rushed. Wearing the Yukata to meals felt right and was incredibly comfortable. The PJs they provided were comfortable too, and I wish I could have a set. At checkout we asked about a ride to the station, and Ken, the owner of Migiwaya, drove us to Yaizu station himself. He was so kind, and we enjoyed talking with him. Ken, thank you for the best hotel stay of my life. I can't wait to come back and enjoy your hospitality again.

Please stop posting photos of the place, the pretty bits, and yourselves in the shower. I get that Migiwaya is gorgeous, but all those pictures spoil the mystery and surprise for other travelers. I stayed over October 1st 2025, and it was a magical place. The half-board dinner was exquisite, and the most delicious steak turned out to be deep-fried collar from a South Seas Blue Fin Tuna, a threatened-to-endangered fish. The brisk morning air, natural private onsen, and cutest cat (nekko) visiting while I was in the private outside hot onsen all made the stay special. The room and service were beyond what you'd want, and the in-house meals were the highlight of Japanese dining. Each room gets a 45-minute private session in the shared communal onsen each evening, which was wonderful. If you're having drinks with dinner, note that a Japan pour of alcohol is 1oz rather than the usual 1.5oz when deciding whether a high-end spirit is worth it. The best drink wasn't on the menu: a larger serving of the Yuzu liquor they offer as an aperitif. They picked me up and dropped me off at the station in a van, then sent me off politely. It was time well spent while traveling between Tokyo and Osaka. Don't plan activities here, just relax.

My partner and I came for a private outdoor onsen, and got a much more relaxing stay than we'd expected. The staff were super friendly and took care to explain everything. There were lots of amenities, free drinks and snacks, and around 6pm they even brought a freshly made snack to the room. The tea was especially good. The card said it was grown in the nearby mountain and they harvest just one stalk at a time for guests. They'd also set things up for us, including a heated rug, a traditional day “kimono”, and a lovely outdoor area. The owner offered to collect us, but we declined since it was only a 15-minute walk. He still took us to the train station the next morning. A very friendly cat came by too. The owner said it wasn't theirs and was glad it didn't bother us. The town is a small countryside fishing place, and the locals were very friendly.
