Ananda Chillage

The common room is a nice place to unwind in the evening with one of their selected local beers and a book from the extensive Yakushima library. This guesthouse also makes a great base for exploring the island. The couple running it are welcoming and know their stuff, from local activities to helping non-Japanese speakers book a meal. Breakfast is thoughtful and healthy.

We loved our four nights here and would gladly come back. The room had lots of natural light and everything we needed, including extra towels, onsen wear, umbrellas, chargers, wires, shampoo, and soap. Breakfast was delicious each morning, and the shared living room and mini kitchen were comfortable and well equipped. After a long hike, we enjoyed a Yakushima beer from the fridge. Getting into restaurants on the island was harder than we expected. On our first day, five or six places turned us away. After that, Miki arranged dinner reservations for every night, and her recommendations were great each time. She’s created a beautiful place here.

Miki was great at sorting out practical details, even figuring out bus connections for me. I could order bento boxes for lunch, and she booked dinner for us. She also had plenty of useful trekking and activity tips. I stayed three nights at Ananda Chillage, in a lovely, quiet neighborhood with good restaurants within walking distance. The breakfast was great, and I really enjoyed Miki’s hospitality, warm and helpful with a real eye for detail. I’d love to return.

Miki’s breakfast was fantastic, and the rooms were modern and spotless. The hosts were incredibly welcoming and helped us sort out restaurant bookings and logistics. It’s a lovely, quiet corner of Yakushima. I’d definitely stay here again.
