Kaze No Sampomichi

A lovely B&B with cheap rooms. The owner is really nice and cooks great food. I don’t think you’ll find a better-value guest house on this island.

The room was clean, the shower had strong water pressure, and they changed the towels daily. I stayed here two years ago, when meals weren’t included because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Even so, the stay was very reasonably priced, especially for all the information they shared. They gave us great hospitality, introduced us to tasty izakayas, rental shops, hot springs, and sightseeing spots, and even helped with a night tour. I’ll definitely come back.

We toured Yakushima by bus, and I’m really glad we picked this lodging. The hospitality ran through everything, from meals and room service to tourist information. The husband enjoys mountain climbing and is a licensed guide. He told us about Shiratani Unsuikyo Gorge, good places to see the Jomon Cedar, and where to find drinking water. He also showed us a spot for seeing the beautiful stars at night, which made my wife very happy. The handmade Yakushima guide in our room was full of useful tips too, including where to eat. We’d definitely like to stay again.

Onoaida Onsen is only a five-minute drive away, and the spring water is superb. The entrance fee has been 300 yen since March 2021, and it really soothed my trekking-tired body. The owner is friendly, the home-cooked food is delicious, and their home-roasted coffee is excellent. You can also order bottled beer and shochu. The renovated rooms are clean and tidy, and there’s parking nearby.
