The owners made a real effort to help us. It seems to be a family-run place, and the service was good. The dad carried our bags up to the second floor. Mom struggled a bit with English, but got her daughter to help us right away. When she heard we planned to go to Jomon Sugi, she checked that we knew which bus to take and how to get there. They gave us Marie Biscuits for our first day hiking at Shira Tani Onsuikyo, and when it was raining on our last day, the owner kindly offered to drive us to the port. It was only a stone’s throw away, and we’d planned to take the bus for one stop because of the rain. They also changed our old cash notes without hesitation, since buses can’t accept the new notes. The place is basic and clean. A nice restaurant is a two-minute walk away, and there’s a cat around the neighbourhood. Acoop is about 15 minutes away on foot, with another supermarket closer by that we completely forgot about during the stay, LOL. There’s a washing machine and dryer. The dryer costs ¥100 for 30 minutes and handles 4.5 kg, though you’ll probably need two rounds for a full dry. The shared kitchen let us heat up bento or supermarket food when we were too exhausted after hikes to go out for dinner. They can prepare hiking bentos too, and have a partnership with a nearby Chinese restaurant that delivers to the homestay.

There’s a bus stop right in front of the guesthouse, which was a handy bonus. I’d happily stay here again and recommend it to people visiting Yakushima. My room felt cozy and homey, smelled pleasant, and everything was new and spotlessly clean. The shared kitchen was open to use and had an electric oven for cooking local fish. When the host saw I was eating only fish, they kindly brought me a bowl of mixed vegetables. They also asked about my adventures and made me feel welcome. After I came back drenched from a multi-day hike in heavy rain, the host let me check in two hours early so I could dry my things and rest. They also offered me the washing machine for all my wet clothes, which was a lifesaver. I’m staying at this lovely homestay on Yakushima now, and it’s been a wonderful experience.

We really enjoyed our four nights here. The staff and family were so friendly, and two of them could communicate in English. The tatami rooms were simple but comfortable, and breakfast was tasty and hearty. The location worked well for getting to the port and bus.

The owner was so sweet and friendly. We stayed four nights, and our room had two single beds, its own shower and a separate private toilet room. The room and shared kitchen were both very clean. It’s in a great spot near Miyanoura Port, with restaurants and a supermarket close by. I’d recommend it to anyone planning a trip to Yakushima.

I spent two nights here in December 2018, in a modern room with a bed, sofa and private bath and toilet. At ¥4500 a night, I thought it was worth it, especially since the breakfast is really good. The bus stop is just across from the entrance. The hosts were helpful and arranged a scooter rental for me. They try their best to communicate in English with the Google Translate app.
