Yukaina Nakamatachi - Hostel

The beds were comfortable, and there are laundry machines and a dryer for just ¥100 each, which was handy. The kitchen has a fridge, freezer, kettle, and microwave, though there were no plates, cups, or cutlery. The place was clean and tidy, and there's a parking lot right in front. Showers lack privacy, and there's nowhere to hang a towel or put your things while you wash. I managed to figure out a solution. Bring your own towel. Check-in is only until 18:00. The woman who handles cleaning and payments can be found in the shop downstairs, sharing an entrance with the Moss burger. The hostel entrance is up the stairs above the mos burger. It's close to all the restaurants and shops in Anbo. You get a key and can leave it beside your bed when you check out.

The location beside the bus stop was the one good thing. We had to stay one night, but the place was run down and not clean at all. There was dust all over the beds, the curtains and air conditioning mentioned in the description were missing, and two of the four showers were out of service. The door on one of the two toilets wouldn't close. The mattresses didn't look good either. Low budget or not, this was a very poor place to stay.

Yukai na Nakamatachi is a great option for a dorm in Yakushima. It's barely 100 meters from the Anbo bus stop, and the beds are comfortable. After a long day, the hot showers with strong pressure were a relief. The staff were kind and helpful, and even arranged a bento for me to take on my trek. There were lots of Yakushima guides and transit information in the common area, which came in handy. I only wish there were more luggage storage. With several people in a room, each carrying a big bag, it can get pretty cramped. I'd still recommend it to anyone visiting the island and looking for a dorm.
