I slept comfortably through the night with the pillow and blanket I borrowed, and it was easy to get around in the regular slippers in the room. Disposable slippers were there too. There were lots of other nice touches: you could choose a pillow, borrow loungewear and blankets, and take as many amenities as needed. The welcome drinks were all-you-can-drink, and the evening ochazuke (rice with green tea) was delicious. Breakfast’s konnyaku balls and taro stew were good as well. A walk to another hotel in the same chain gives you free use of its large public bath and sauna.

The room was clean and bright despite the building being older, and I liked the welcome drink at check-in. It’s easy to reach: cross the Yamagata Station East Exit Deck, turn your back to the station, and walk straight toward the Daiwa Roynet on the right. The distance is manageable, with a convenience store on the way. I didn’t try the place next door, but there was a ramen shop. At the entrance, there’s a good choice of shampoo and lotion, plus you can borrow a humidifier, soba pillow, or air purifier. They also had alcohol samples and ochazuke (rice with tea) from 10 p.m. The room’s coffee cups were just the right size for brewing my favorite drip coffee, and breakfast was good too. I’ll stay here again when I visit Yamagata. Thank you.

The welcome drink was a nice touch, but the room’s condition was alarming. Wallpaper and other interior items were damaged in many spots, and the bed’s underside was frayed and torn. The tiled shower stall felt a bit scary without any light inside. I understand the building is old, but I wish they’d at least made some repairs.

There are plenty of amenities, including an alcoholic welcome drink, and it was nice to bring takeout from the nearby Kushikatsu Tanaka back to my room. I couldn’t figure out how to flush the toilet, so I called the front desk and they showed me. It was a great stay at a reasonable price.

For business use, I had no complaints about the room, and there were quite a lot of power outlets. The shower room in my room was deep, like a small tub, so it could be used as a bath even though the bathroom only has a shower. It’s under a 10-minute walk from Yamagata Station, with a convenience store nearby. Amenities are picked up from the lobby, and I wish they at least left toothbrushes in the room. Breakfast is free, so it isn’t lavish, but I was glad to try Yamagata’s stewed potatoes.
