I’d wanted to visit this pension for a long time, and it reminded me what’s so nice about staying in one. The small, clean, comfortable space and relaxed atmosphere feel different from hotels and hot spring inns. It’s also thoughtful for families with babies, with diaper bags and hot water available. Dinner was excellent and filling, without feeling fussy. The prosciutto and peach salad was exquisite, and I enjoyed the green pea soup. The sautéed rainbow trout and chicken curry were seasoned beautifully, and the eggplant alongside them had clearly been prepared with care. I went back for plenty of rice. Dessert was peach ice cream, which was baby-friendly too. At breakfast, the smell of homemade bread was lovely. The elderly woman who served us was cheerful and sweet. I heard she was 87, but talking with her felt like chatting with someone from my own generation. I hope she keeps going. We had a wonderful stay. Thank you so much.
I stayed during the 2021 Olympic cycling races, and they were very accommodating when I arrived late. Breakfast alone was worth it, with fresh bread and tasty sides. It makes me think dinner would be good too, so next time I’ll book the plan with both meals. I’d recommend the place to anyone who wants good food. I did wonder if people at the neighboring campsite might be noisy in summer, or if that was just during the Olympics. Either way, breakfast is definitely worth having. 😊👍
I was cycling around the base of Mt. Fuji when I stayed here. The food was generous as well as high quality, and alcohol was reasonably priced. The place was clean and had a homey feel, plus there was a family bath open whenever you wanted to use it. I’ll definitely come back.
We visited in winter, but I’d love to come back in summer. Dinner included ingredients from Lake Yamanaka, and the rainbow trout was especially good. The grandmother and mother were so welcoming and kind, and the whole stay felt warm and comfortable. They even offered to drive us around and brought us drinks without waiting for us to ask. The building has been around for 35 years, so it does show its age, but overall it’s a lovely place to stay. I was also pleasantly surprised to see Hikonyan there. Thank you very much.
The staff were attentive in an easy, natural way, so I felt completely at ease throughout our stay. The interior was elegant and impressively clean. The food made great use of herbs and went wonderfully with the Katsunuma wine. Even my picky five-year-old finished everything eagerly. I’d love to visit again.
