Shuhoukaku Kogetsu

We loved the outdoor public onsen, and the kaiseki dinner each night was a real cultural experience. The staff were attentive, too. By the second day they knew my family’s preferences and remembered them. The setting deserves six stars. The views are phenomenal, and each afternoon or evening there are free drinks to enjoy while looking across the lake at Mt Fuji with your feet in a hot foot bath. A wonderful stay.

It’s a beautiful place, and the women on staff were kind. Still, the men who came to lay out the futons after dinner were kind of rude. One even barged in while we were still eating. Another Asian tourist family flew DRONES right over the public and private onsens, despite a clear no-drone sign. I can’t believe tourists ignore such simple rules, and the staff didn’t seem very confrontational about it.

The view is breathtaking, and the service was impeccable. I’d have liked the food to be a little more high end, though, and the room felt a bit small for a family. This hotel had been on my bucket list for a while, and we finally got the chance to stay.

The dinner was the part we appreciated most. A lovely lady served it in our room, and everything was well prepared. The tuna sashimi was the softest I’ve ever had 😍 It was the best dinner of our two weeks in Japan so far. My partner and I loved the place. The view is amazing, though you can find that at nearby places as well. I’d definitely recommend it for the food and service.
