The room was quiet enough to sleep, and breakfast was quite good, especially the hamburger they served as a treat. But I booked two nights and arrived trusting the JAL brand, only to be very disappointed by Room #318. People might assume Japanese hotels are hygienic, but this one was an exception. The room felt dusty as soon as I walked in. The window frame and curtains were dusty too, and I wondered how long they'd been used. There was mold in the bathroom, which left a slight musty smell. Hygiene was poor enough that I had to wash the cups myself, the first time I've done that in Japan. It's a shame. I wonder if reception put us in the low-floor Room #318 because we're not Japanese.

Hotel JAL City Kannai Yokohama is handy for central Yokohama, with Chinatown, Yamashita Park, and Kannai Station only minutes away. The rooms are spacious by Japanese hotel standards, with modern decor, clean lines, and useful amenities. Room cleaning needs to be better, especially in the bathroom. There's a coffee maker, but no coffee capsules, and the front desk just said, “SORRY! SORRY!”
