THE GATE HOTEL YOKOHAMA by HULIC

The location worked really well for us. We could walk to China town and other amenities, and the park is right across the street. The rooftop has harbor views, and we walked the short 15 minutes to the cruise port with just our carry-on wheeled bags. The hotel was quiet and the staff were excellent. Our room was on the small side, but still had space for a desk, a table, and two chairs. The beds were very comfortable, with soft sheets and good pillows, and they provided cotton pajamas. There were Nespresso pods, bottled water replaced daily, and plenty of spare toiletries. I especially liked the bathroom, split into three separate areas with doors. The hair conditioner was excellent, which you don’t often get at a hotel. We stayed two nights before our cruise and would recommend it and stay again.

We chose this as a relaxed, slower-paced alternative to Tokyo before flying north from Haneda, and had a great stay. The staff and amenities were great, and both the rooms and lounge bar have amazing views of the port.

The hotel has a premium feel, nice rooms, quiet surroundings, and good access. The sea view from breakfast is pleasant, but that’s about the only thing I liked about the experience. The food itself was okay and tasty, just not special. You get a set menu with little room to change it. The bottom-floor option is somewhat better, with an acceptable choice, but breakfast upstairs is quite disappointing and they don’t give you enough to drink. Seating is also miserable, with small tables and no room for your legs. Going to the top floor for check-in and checkout is a hassle. I’d stay here, but skip breakfast. You can find similar quality for a better price elsewhere.

I’ve stayed at this chain in Ryogoku whenever I’m in Tokyo, and we’ve just tried its brand-new place near Sapporo station after arriving from Sapporo. This was our first time at the Yokohama location. Staff service has been consistently very good at all three branches, almost amazing. And the harbor view from our room was absolutely stunning!
