Hotel Yokosuka

The staff have been the best I've encountered at any hotel. They've been wonderfully polite, quick, and helpful, even though I speak no Japanese and they speak little English. Kohei was especially patient and helpful with me, and his English is extremely fluent despite his modesty about it. The same company runs Hotel New Yokosuka, but this hotel is far superior in my view. Staff said New Yokosuka had better English support for my needs and directed me there. That isn't true in my experience, and this hotel is cheaper and better. The American Sailors in the "Honcho" can party loudly until 3 a.m. This is a strange place, well away from the American and Japanese bar and party areas, so it's very quiet, but also far from other businesses and train stations. The rooms are large for the price, though their quality varies wildly. It also runs a direct bus onto the Naval Base, but that costs extra, which I didn't realize on my first stay, and the fare is a bit steep. It's an odd facility with the best hotel staff I've seen in Japan or anywhere else. I'd stay again, 10/10.

It's about a 10-minute walk to Yokosuka Chuo, the nearest train station. I found that the hotel was built 57 years ago, counting from 2024, so some things in the rooms and building are aged. Still, it's not bad.

The rooms are extremely dated and don't feel welcoming, and the shower was old too. If you book at the new yokosuka and they have no room, you'll be sent to what seems to be the city's oldest hotel. There's no security around who can pick up your key at the front desk, since you leave it there when you go out.

Very basic, low-budget Japanese hotel, though it charges the full per diem rate. I'd use it if everything else were full. You get a bed, desk, small couch, and chair. The bed is like a brick, most of the furnishings are old and heavily worn, and while there's wifi, don't count on a decent connection.
