Business Hotel Ocean (tottori)

The hot spring was good.

The room was comfortable, with good bedding, and I think it’s perfectly adequate as a business hotel. The clothes provided inside are the same as at Ocean Onsen. A staff member at the hot spring said it was fine to wear them when walking between the hotel and the in-house clothing area. It’s a two-storey building with no elevator, so keep that in mind. If you’re taking the bus, the Kaike Onsen Tourist Center is a bit of a walk away. There seem to be closer stops, but the last bus from Yonago Station leaves early, around 7 pm. One snag: the vending machines wouldn’t take the new banknotes, so I couldn’t buy a drink. It would’ve been nice if they accepted cashless payment at least.

I stayed for the first time on a weekday in January 2026, traveling from outside the prefecture. The biggest draw was getting two free tickets to the adjacent Ocean and Super Sento baths. I never used the bath in my room. Instead, I checked in without my bags, went to the adjacent Ocean for a soak, had dinner before the 9:30 pm last order, and went to bed. It was super relaxing. Maybe it was quiet because of cancellations after the recent earthquake, I’m not sure. The one downside was having to go between separate buildings for the hotel and Super Sento. It was cold enough that I shivered on the way.

The single room they first showed me was a real problem. Baby Star snacks from the previous guest were scattered over the floor, and the unit bath smelled strongly of urine, as if splashes on the wall hadn’t been cleaned. I wondered whether the room had been cleaned at all, and couldn’t stay there, so I asked to move. The replacement room was ordinary and at least gave me some relief. They really need to clean properly. The building is just steel-framed, so soundproofing is average. The hotel sits at the edge of the Kaike Onsen area, a little toward the Sea of Japan from Route 9. The nearest restaurants, convenience store, and pharmacy are about a 10-minute walk away, which is a bit inconvenient. You can drink alcohol at the restaurant inside the adjacent Ocean hot spring facility, but if you want food or drinks in your room, I’d buy them beforehand. Since it’s near the sea, strong winds can blow salt spray onto cars at the hot spring facility. Hotel guests can use the parking lot behind the hotel, which should keep cars sheltered unless the weather is really rough. The front desk is right inside the entrance, which is open 24 hours with no curfew. The single rooms around 101 to 108 are right next to the front desk, so you may feel a little self-conscious. All in all, it’s a reasonably priced and usable place if you just need to stay in Yonago, cheaper than Route Inn and similar hotels. If you’re looking to enjoy Kaike Onsen, you’d be better off booking a proper ryokan.
