For a budget trip to Yurigahama beach phantom island, this guesthouse is a practical, inexpensive choice, especially if you don’t have a rental car and plan to catch the ferry the next day. The owner picked me up at the port, which helped offset the room’s condition. Walking from the port takes about 1-1.5 hours. The location works well for visiting Yurigahama if you do have a car, as I did. Just be prepared for the lack of restaurants after sunset outside the downtown area, about an hour’s walk away. It’s a good idea to get cup noodles or something at the grocery store next door. The place is old and won’t suit everyone, especially people who only travel in luxury. I didn’t notice the bad smell some other reviewers mentioned. It just looks old, and maybe that smell was imagined. For the low price, I liked having my own room, privacy, and a sink, without having to socialize with other guests. I’d still choose it over a new hostel at this price. The owner was extremely honest: I booked two nights but left after one because of an unexpected rainstorm and an early business trip back to Tokyo. They charged me for one night and refused payment for the second. I think the affordable price comes from an owner who isn’t greedy or focused on business, and hasn’t invested in a luxury remodel. I’d stay again solo or with friends who are open to backpacking.
