Oyado Mokuren

The early morning sky was full of stars, as vivid as I remember from my time in the military. The hot springs were wonderful, and the owner was so hospitable. I also ordered the top-tier crab kaiseki course. There was enough food for four people in their 20s, and it was impressive quality. Everything, from the service to the meal, was top-notch. ♨️ It was the best.

I walked here from the station, and the lovely countryside and streets made for a great stroll. The hot spring water was incredible, and my skin felt smooth and soft afterward. Both breakfast and dinner were beautiful and delicious. I had a wonderful time.

The bedding and clothes provided were clean and smelled nice, which I appreciated. The inn’s facilities aren’t especially fancy, and we had the cheapest, smallest room. It didn’t have a shower, which was inconvenient. The male and female staff were both very friendly to me as a Korean, though I know other reviews say otherwise. There are no grocery stores nearby, so pick up supplies at a convenience store near Yufuin Station. It’s also a difficult walk to the inn because of the steep mountain road. They do offer pickup, but we took a taxi from the stand near the station. Our meal was a tasty kaiseki set with hot pot and dessert, like Japanese home cooking. Whether you enjoy that style may depend on your taste. There was no crab or other sashimi, and I don’t know if those need to be requested or are only served to larger groups. A bottle of Tokuri sake cost 660 yen.

Dinner is the reason I’m happy with this place. I’ve visited plenty of hot springs, and even good facilities and service can leave me disappointed if the food isn’t good. Here, the dinner is reliably satisfying. I added crab, too (*^^*). The facilities are average to below average, but the baths are private and the food was among the best at any accommodation I’ve stayed in. Some negative reviews seem to judge it against first-class ryokans. I’m a self-described hot spring wanderer, and for me a good dinner is what matters most. If you’re paying mainly for atmosphere, you may not feel satisfied after leaving. I recommend it (*^^*).
