Shoko-san made us feel settled straight away. She showed us the facilities as she took us to our room, served welcome matcha tea with yokan, took care of our meals, and saw us off to the shuttle bus, which was actually a large private car just for us. One friend was too unwell to come to breakfast, so Shoko-san prepared onigiris and pickles and brought them to our room. We're so grateful for her heartwarming care. We spent two nights in the Japanese-style maisonette, with two floors, two bedrooms, and a private onsen. Dinner and breakfast were included. There were three onsens available, with a fourth under construction during our stay. The meals were delicious and varied, omakase style, with a different specialty each day. We only learned afterwards that the restaurant had a Michelin star, which made sense given the care and delicacy of each dish. The ryokan is right in the tourist area next to Kinrin Lake, though a bit far from the train station. A free shuttle is available if you tell the front desk your travel plans. This was the most comfortable ryokan stay I've had in Japan and the highlight of our trip. Highly recommend for the lovely rooms, food, onsen choices, and genuine Japanese hospitality.

Everything was good at this Ryotei, from the room on the second floor to the dinner, breakfast, service, and onsen. It's conveniently close to the lake and shopping street, with free parking. Staff can communicate in English with help from a translator app.

The food was a highlight, and the spacious room had its own private onsen. This is a lovely, romantic ryokan, though it seems like it may have been in better shape once. It sits a little away from the day-tripper crowds, with Kinrin lake about a five-minute walk away.

Breakfast and dinner were brought to our room, and the staff were courteous, hardworking, and excellent. We stayed in a clean, well-kept tatami room with a small outdoor garden and our own private hot spring. We’d happily return, though we’ll need to save up first since it wasn’t cheap.

The pick-up and drop-off service came in handy, and the staff member who helped get the food ready was really sweet. Service was good in general, but the ryokan feels old and dated, and the room I stayed in had a moldy smell that was hard to put up with. With so many other ryokans to choose from, I wouldn’t stay here again.
