Dinner and breakfast were French style and reasonable, and the tea room was our favorite spot to relax with tea or coffee. The view was okay, but getting around was difficult because the hotel sits on a steep slope. The building feels quite old, as does the outdoor private bath in the room. Service was poor, especially at check-in, where there was no guidance at all. The QR code didn't work and the Wi-Fi was poor.

The location and free parking were excellent. Inside, the room, Onsen, tea room, interior art corridor, and dining room were all excellent too. I've stayed at many Ryokan, and this is my top pick, five stars in every respect.

The room was huge and quiet, and both dinner and breakfast were good. The male onsen was the one part I didn't enjoy as much. Compared with everything else at this high-quality ryokan, it felt like a very ordinary public bath.

We picked this ryokan for the in-room open-air bath, and the price felt very reasonable for what we got. Our 80sqm deluxe Japanese room was beautiful and spacious enough for more people to sleep on futons. It was all clean and well kept, with free amenities and drinks. The bath had a lovely view over the town and mountains, and there was also a cypress bath for longer soaks. The staff were kind to my friend, who couldn't speak Japanese, even though few of them spoke English. It may help to have a few Japanese phrases ready. We also liked the complex itself, with interesting manga rooms and places to relax. I only wish we'd stayed longer than one night. I'm vegan and my friend is vegetarian. Since the website said the teishoku menu could be adjusted for allergies, I hoped they could adapt ours too, but the evening meal couldn't be changed to remove fish and shellfish. I understand that traditional ryokan may not offer vegan or vegetarian meals. When the staff noticed we hadn't eaten much of dinner, though, they did their best to make us a custom morning teishoku to suit our tastes. It was delicious and luxurious, the best I've had in a long time, and that thoughtfulness made our day. Yugawara is very quiet and peaceful. The ryokan is about a 30-minute walk from the station, or you can arrange a shuttle through the ryokan. There are also traditional restaurants nearby if you haven't ordered the teishoku. The staff’s hospitality was wonderful.。Thank you very much.。
