The historic atmosphere is what I loved most. This onsen has nearly 400 years of history, and the place feels genuinely old while still being tidy and quiet. The traditional Japanese feel is lovely. The onsen is warm, too, and you can sense its history, though there’s no open-air bath with a view. I took all the onsen photos when I was the only one inside. Winter was much harder. The room was spacious but really cold at night. For safety reasons, the heater can’t run without fresh air, and the air conditioning didn’t warm the room well. The toilet room was freezing, though its heated seat saved me. There’s no elevator, only stairs to the room. The staff kindly helped carry my luggage in, but not out. The public areas were cold as well, especially between the lobby and dining halls. They’re beautiful, but you need to be in good shape.
