Madiba 2 Cottage

Madiba and its staff were great, but we ended up there at night because of problems with the hotel next door. We had booked at Karibu Palms through its manager Steven, who had reserved a room three weeks before we arrived. As we were getting close, he turned off his phone and wasn’t around. The hotel said it was full and had no reservation for us. After two flights and a long drive from Mombasa, we were exhausted and frustrated. At 9pm we had no choice but to go across the street, because Steven forced us to. He also runs a tour guide company and pressured us several times to book a tour. I think my not wanting a tour affected how he treated us. He had promised late check-out, but called early on our last morning and told us to leave as soon as possible. What a joke. Karibu Palms and Madiba shouldn’t have management that doesn’t care about guests.

We were welcomed warmly by the staff and general manager, and I really enjoyed staying in this cottage. The room was large, the beds were very comfortable, and there was a swimming pool. A great example of excellent hospitality, and I’d definitely recommend the cottage.

Lovely atmosphere, wonderful people, and easy access to both the beach and the airport.

The place itself is nice, but the management and customer service were the worst I’ve experienced, except for Mr. Njane.
