After a day out in the heat, that little indoor pool is a welcome addition. Andavelo is a restored Swahili home, with beautiful new touches throughout. The staff made the stay too: Safari, Johnson, and Abu were wonderful, treated us like family, and showed us around. You can send them on errands, just remember to tip. We had a lovely time.

Safari, Johnson, and Abu are what make Andavelo special. They go out of their way to make guests happy. The suites are spacious and comfortable, and the traditional house has been restored with real care and attention to detail. A wonderful boutique hotel.

The beds are incredibly high, which I actually liked. Inside, the finish is really cool and picturesque, with strong fans to keep the rooms aired out. Even the toilet has a bit of a throne look. We arrived without a booking and were welcomed warmly, though finding the entrance was tricky and we had to wait a while before anyone opened the door. The staff, Jonathan, Safari, and the chef whose name I missed, were all cheerful and lovely. We skipped dinner, but breakfast was amazing: pancakes, eggs to choose from, plenty of coffee and tea, bread, fruit, and juice. I was stuffed. Paid with M-PESA.

The architecture is fascinating, it leaves you wondering how they managed to build the place. There are vintage details and proper Lamu beds, and the location is great. The team were amazing and happy to make things happen when asked. Many thanks for hosting us.

The rooms and house are beautiful, comfortable, and clean, but it's the service that made this one of the best hotels I've stayed in. Safari, Johnson, and Abu were such a great team, thanks so much for everything. Abu is also the private chef, and his seafood is the best you can find in Lamu, no kidding. Try the ginger crab, calamari, and lobster.
