Mwazaro Beach Lodge

Our small bungalow was lovely, and the restaurant did its best to meet our requests. The menu leaned Italian, though traditional Kenyan dishes were available if we asked. It’s a good spot if you want quiet: music stayed in the restaurant, and they turned it down when we requested. We hoped to stay at better-known resorts over New Year’s, but they were full. That led us to a less touristy part of Kenya, where we walked alone on the beach, visited nearby caves and villages, and got a more authentic feel for the country. The staff were friendly in a way that felt more genuine than at the big resorts. I hope they’re treated well at work. Most guests were quiet too, though that may just have been luck. We’d gladly visit again.

The food was phenomenal, and the rooms were comfortable and had air conditioning. Mwazaro has a special spirit that made me feel connected to both the lodge and the community. The staff were wonderful, and it was easy to build relationships with them. It’s a peaceful place to unwind, with plenty to do. We took a boat to a sandbank at sunset and went snorkeling. For kitesurfing, the conditions are great, and knowledgeable staff are on hand to help. I can’t recommend this place enough.

We came to Mwazaro for work and had such a good time we didn’t want to go. After days out in the field, it felt like the perfect bit of luxury. The place was stunning, the food was amazing, and the staff made us feel so welcome and thoroughly spoiled. I’d recommend it to anyone.

We spent two weeks here around New Year’s and were delighted. The staff were so polite and made the stay feel special. The setting is peaceful, and the rooms are carefully put together and furnished, with air conditioning too. Everything is made in-house, from breakfast bread and granola to dinner desserts. As far as I know, it may be the only hotel within 50 kilometers with gluten-free options. There’s plenty for active guests, including kite surfing, yoga, snorkeling, and diving, while anyone wanting a quiet day can just relax by the pool.
