Glorious Hotel & Spa

The pool was beautiful, the food was good, and the staff made us feel welcome. Rooms were spacious and clean, with lovely linen. The AC was noisy, there was no TV remote in the room, and the shower tile corners could use a bit of bleach.

The main hotel and pool are pleasant, and the staff are excellent and happy to help. Still, our stay was disappointing. There was no tea or coffee in the room, the bed made us itchy, and the internet in our room was practically unusable.

The restaurant was the biggest disappointment. We were the only diners one evening, and after being seated at a set table we spotted little insects in an empty water glass and dead flies along the windowsills. The food itself was decent, and I managed to put the housekeeping issue aside, but I can see it being a deal-breaker for many people. The pool, by contrast, was well kept and enjoyable. We stayed three nights in January 2025 at Glorious Hotel & Spa in Kampong Thom, booking a Landmark Room through the website, or so we thought. At check-in they couldn't find our reservation, even though I had a confirmation email. After some discussion and a consultation with someone who seemed to be the manager, they found us a room. The hotel was quiet, so it worked out, but I wondered what would have happened if it had been full. The place looked much as it did when we visited about eight years ago. That's partly good, but it also seems due for updates. There aren't really high-end accommodations in Kampong Thom, so in that context this is still one of the better choices, though expectations have to be adjusted. The room was clean and practical, we slept fine, there wasn't a noise issue, and the bathroom was adequate. The shower was clean with decent pressure, nothing fancy or concerning. The staff were warm, courteous, and accommodating. We came back to find a towel folded into a shape with flower petals on the bed, a small, thoughtful touch. It’s centrally located and convenient for getting around Kampong Thom, which suited our family visit. We’re a husband and wife in our 30s who’ve been to around 20 countries, and we look for a mix of comfort, value, and memorable experiences. Others, like families with children or retired couples seeking a slower trip, may have different expectations. Would we stay again? Maybe. There’s another high-end hotel in town we’d likely try first for comparison. The basics are there, but the execution needs work. For us, it was just okay, neither bad nor great.

The hotel has a lovely feel, especially the grand staircase in dark wood, and there were rose petals spread across the double bed when we arrived. The pool is a good size. The dining room’s very bright lights made it feel less calm or romantic. I suspect that’s a cultural difference, and a dimmer switch would sort it out.
