David's Hostel & Restaurant

The dorms were very clean, and private rooms are available if you want more space. The place has a friendly atmosphere, and the service was great. Ali and the rest of the staff were incredibly welcoming and helpful, which made my stay special. It's a one-minute walk to the beach and right next to nest beach club for the jungle party. Highly recommend it if you want a clean place and good service.

Don't be fooled by the 4-star rating. The accommodation itself was fine, but the staff ruined my stay. They were consistently unhelpful and showed no empathy, manners, or real customer service. Even though the hostel was rarely busy, every interaction felt rushed. I ordered food from the bar or restaurant every day, and the orders were never reliably correct. I even wrote mine down, and it still came out wrong. I wasn't expecting special treatment and understand hostel standards, but this level of service was unacceptable and far below what guests should expect. Management should review staff training and service standards.

A quaint place close to the beach. David and his team helped make our time on Koh Rong memorable. It's a great spot for young tourists like me.

We booked one night at David's through booking.com, three months ahead of Nestival, for £22 because we knew festival prices would rise. On the morning we arrived to check in, David told us an island power cut two days earlier had caused an “overbooking error.” He said he was honouring other bookings. I can only assume those guests had booked shortly before at festival rates of £70-£100 a night, and that he gave them our room instead because they were paying more. We were left without accommodation. On festival day, there was nowhere on the island under £100 a night. David offered a one-person tent in the garden for a couple in 33°c heat, free of charge, as though he were doing us a favour after letting us down. We had no choice but to leave the island and miss Nestival, which was the whole reason for our trip to Koh Rong. It was awful to have our trip suddenly ruined by what felt like greed and dishonesty. I couldn't recommend this property less.
