The location worked well for Nestival, and we could walk to either Long Set Beach or Kaoh Touch in about 10-20 minutes. The beds were comfortable, the hostel was clean, and the bedroom air conditioning and fans worked perfectly. The toilet and shower area wasn’t enclosed, though, so mosquitoes were a nuisance whenever we went in there. There’s also a lot of construction nearby, which made daytime noisy, and the hostel had no water refill station, food, or common social space. The bigger problems were with the welcome and payment. We got a chilly reception at check-in, though we were allowed in early, which was a relief. We were told to pay the owner’s brother, but nobody came to collect us when he arrived, so we paid at checkout. We booked through Hostelworld, then were asked to pay double the total. After going back and forth with the brothers, the owner called the booking company, which confirmed the correct price was $28 for two people, not the $58 they’d asked for. Check the amount carefully when you book and pay.

The owner was one of the kindest people I’ve met and really tried to make guests’ stays enjoyable. The rooms were spacious and cleaned every day, too. Nestival was only a five-minute walk away, and there was a short walk to a quieter stretch of beach. One of the best hostels I’ve stayed in. I’d come back to Koh Rong and stay here again.

The staff were lovely and fixed the door lock quickly, but it meant we’d have needed to carry two keys with us. More concerning, the door wouldn’t lock when we arrived, and the open private bathroom let in bugs and mosquitoes as soon as the light was on. We also spotted a gecko in the room. We’d booked a private room for two, but it looked nothing like the photos on Booking.com. The safety issue and bathroom made us too uncomfortable to stay, so we checked out without spending even one night and found somewhere else.

There was no view, luxury, or food, just a hostel. I’m not sure whether bad reviews were deleted, but we felt the owner was trying to overcharge us throughout our stay. On Agoda, the price was advertised for two adults. At check-in, he said it was only for one person, blamed Agoda, and said he’d sort it out. We doubt that explanation since the other hostel listings on Agoda had the correct prices. When we said the single-person price was too high, we couldn’t cancel and were pushed to book for another person. He claimed that booking one person had already been made and couldn’t be reversed, even though the place was completely empty. We ended up staying three nights. We were also told to wait three hours to get into our room, despite it being empty and clean. We heard other guests who arrived later had the same wait. There was no water for hours each morning. The owner blamed the city, but we spoke with other people and stayed elsewhere on the island, where everything worked perfectly.

I felt comfortable here right from the start. Resost has a warm, relaxed atmosphere, and I had a pleasant experience throughout my stay. It just feels good to spend time in the space.
