Countryside Family Guesthouse

The hosts, Reaksa and Phaly Himm, made our week in Pouk feel like home. They looked after us and were helpful in every way. We also enjoyed fresh, delicious meals at the guest house, and our room was clean and spacious with a very comfortable bed. It’s a great way to experience rural Cambodian life while still being less than half an hour from Siem Reap and Angkor Wat. Ask Reaksa about his remarkable personal story, his fish ponds, the community centre, and his neighbourhood development projects. The guest house is great value, especially since every penny spent helps fund those generous projects. We highly recommend it to travellers who want to feel at home.

The house has the space, comfort, and security a family needs, but it’s really out in the middle of nowhere. The nearest food store, for milk, cheese, or fresh bread to start the day, is 16 km away, as is a decent restaurant. The rent is 3-5 times higher than in expensive tourist city Siem Reap.

It’s easy to get a tuk tuk into Siem Reap or to Angkor wat, even though the villa isn’t in the city centre. Back at the property, the setting is peaceful and quiet. There are three separate guesthouses. The one I stayed in had three bedrooms, two with king beds and one with two single beds, and every room had its own bathroom. Downstairs there was a fully equipped kitchen and a large dining room. Meals can be brought to your room for breakfast, lunch, or dinner if you let the staff know ahead of time.
